The Weigh In

Like his brother, Tate is a trooper.  I got up about 1:30 to pump and the nurse said they were weighing him and taking his measurements.  So we headed down to the nursery.  He weighs 5 lbs 11 oz.  That also includes all the stuff for the IV line, so subtract a little for that.  He is 19″ long.  THey were working on weaning him off the oxygen and hope to have that done by this morning.  I was just down there delivering his milk and he still had the hood on, but I didn’t get any updates on how things were going.  After they wean him off the hood I can start feeding and they will actually move him to my room!  We did get to hold him.  I woke Pat up to let him know they were doing measurements and we both got to hold him for a little bit.  He’s tiny, but there is definitely more to him than there was to Cole.  I still can’t get over how very different they look.  There will be no mistaking these baby pictures apart!

I am doing ok.  Still weak, but getting better.  I have been able to walk to the nursery so that’s a plus.  I haven’t heard if they have discovered a cause to the early labor yet.  The did send the placenta to wherever they send that stuff, but so far no one seems to be able to tell why.  For all I know they could just chalk it up to stress.  I am just incredibly thankful that we made it an extra 4 weeks this time and that he is healthy.  I don’t know how we’ve managed to do that twice, but we are truly blessed.  Thank you for all the prayers and support.  You have no idea how much it helps to know that others are thinking of us.  I promise to post more pictures later today.  I’ll probably wait until they clear him of his wires and tubes and hopefully they’ll move him into my room and we can get a family picture.  Well, I am off to try to get more sleep.

  • Becky – I just wanted you to know that we are praying for you. We are friends of Kristen’s. You and I seem to be on the same schedule. Our boys are about the same age, we went through similar experiences in October, and then we got pregnant again in November. I am due August 29th. I have been feeling so sorry for myself being so uncomfortable in every which way… and then I saw the precious picture of Tate and decided I could be patient for 6 more weeks. I am so thankful that you & Tate both seem to be doing so well. I am surprised at how big Tate really is being so early. No wonder it feels like I am hauling around a football with feet to kick me in the side and ribs and everywhere in between.
Hopefully you two can go home soon so that Cole can get to know his little bro. God bless! Rachel
