Enough is Enough Already

I’ve decided no more complaining in my blog.  Just when you think things are under control, something else goes wrong.  So my aching back turned into contractions and landed me in the hospital early Saturday morning.  Looks like I am here to stay until this baby decides to show.  At least I can get internet!  I am doing fine.  They have pretty much stopped contractions completely.  I have a few, but I don’t notice them, just the computer does.  The bleeding has also mostly subsided, so that is good also.  The Dr. did check me today and I am 3 cm dilated, which means I won’t be allowed to go home like I hoped.  I wasn’t terribly optimistic that they would let me go so it was no surprise.  They think the bleeding came from my mucous plug (I’m sure you all enjoy that information).  My water hasn’t broke and the placenta is still intact.  The baby is doing fine too.  It seems to be positioned correctly.  They did an ultrasound yesterday to check out the baby.  I’m not sure how big it is.  I think it’s hard to estimate at this stage, but I”m guessing around 5ish pounds.  They are letting me stay in Marshall.  They gave us the option to go to Sioux Falls.  They don’t really like babies under 35 weeks here since they don’t have a NICU, but they gave me steriod shots for the lungs, so they seem to think it will be ok here.  Pat thought it would be better at Sioux Falls, probably more because we know the routine there, but I think it’s easier for me here.  That way I can see Cole every day and Pat can still help at home until I deliver.

Cole is taking it all in stride.  Pat brings him in in the afternoon and he’s been staying with my ILs for the most part.  Pat did tell me that when he changes him or gives him a snack or puts him down for a nap Cole keeps saying “Mommy?  Mommy?”.  If that doesn’t break your heart.  He’s been getting to spend more time outside which is nice.  The poor kid is going to end up with a complex.  First he spends a day in the hospital for an echo and x-rays.  Then he visits the doctor because he’s sick.  Five days later he’s back with a broken leg.  Now his Mommy is gone and won’t come home without a new baby that he understands nothing about.  If that’s not enough shortly after his cast comes off we’ll move to a new house, which probably will be the least of his problems since he’s basically living there now.  It’ll be interesting to say the least.

At any rate, I don’t know how long I will be here.  It could be 2 days, it could be a week.  I’m hoping they won’t switch me to magnesium sulfate to stop labor at any rate.  I am on oral terbutaline every 4 hours or every 2 if needed.  I’m also on IV fluids and antibiotics, plus the monitors, so I can’t even go to the bathroom by myself.  I will try to keep everyone updated, but for right now it’s just sit (or lay) and wait.

  • Good luck! I’ll definitely keep you and the baby (and Pat and Cole) in my prayers.

The good news with all of this is that Cole is young enough that he won’t remember any of this drama in a few years. :)

  • Hey, Becky. Your mom emailed to say that they might be headed your way soon. I hope that baby slows way down in the delivery department and you get to go home for a few more weeks before this baby is born.

    Love your blog!
    Kristi
