Memory Lane with the VW Beetle

Yesterday was my Dad’s 59th birthday.  My sister Jenny wrote a nice post on one of her memories of riding with Dad in the bug.  I too remember a certain trip in the bug with Dad.  This was when I was 5 and we were living in Independence, KS.  The passenger door on the bug was hard to get shut completely.  I remember sitting in the passenger seat, probably unbuckled, when we went around a corner and the door flew open.  Dad’s arm flew over just as fast to keep me in the car.  Today he probably would have been arrested for child endangerment, but back then, that’s what you did.  I think he’s gotten better about seat belt wearing over the years.

The weather has finally turned warmer.  I hope it’s here to stay.  Cole and I ran a bunch of errands today and I picked up seeds for my garden.  I am done with class a week from Friday and then have one final the following Tuesday.  Then I am off for the summer!  It’s hard to believe it’s almost May.  They are preparing to dig the basement for my ILs this week.  Things are starting to move…
